The difference between hemp & marijuana
Both hemp and marijuana are technically the same plant, Cannabis sativa. Although, hemp is completely legal, while marijuana is considered a restricted substance. Europe has set clear distinctions between hemp and marijuana. While both plants belong to the Cannabis sativa species, hemp and marijuana are categorized by their THC content. The hemp plants are high in CBD and low in THC, and the marijuana is usually high in THC and low in CBD.
Hemp
According to EU law, industrial hemp is considered any plant with less than 0.2% THC. Industrial hemp is legal throughout Europe, and is mostly used for its fiber, and seeds for food, and CBD extracts.
Marijuana
In Europe, marijuana is considered to be any cannabis plant with a THC content higher than 0.2%. Marijuana crops can still have high concentrations of CBD, along with other therapeutic cannabinoids, but its restriction is largely due to the psychoactive effects of THC.
